Eagan Women of Note

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I have not sung with a chorus since high school, can I still join?
    • Our members have a wide range of musical experience.  We have a few who studied music  in college, and many more whose background was singing in high school or church choirs.
  • Do I need to audition to join?
    • We do not require auditions, just a love of singing and the desire to sing with a group.
  • What kind of music does the chorus sing?
    • We sing a variety of music including:  sacred, classical, folk songs, show tunes, classic American standards and favorites.  During the Christmas season we have a variety of traditional and favorite songs.  There is something for everyone.  The music we sing is in two to four part soprano and alto harmonies, depending on the arrangement.
  • Do I need to live in Eagan, MN to join?
    • No.  Many of our members are from Eagan and surrounding communities, but we have had members from throughout the Twin Cities area.
  • Why are you called the Eagan Women of Note when you have members from outside Eagan?
    • We are based out of Eagan, and are seen as a good will ambassador for the community.  We are sponsored by the Eagan Parks and Recreation Department and by the Rosemount-Apple Vally-Eagan school district (196).
  • How many women are in the Eagan Women of Note?
    • Membership varies, but usually we have 30-35 women in the group.
  • Tell me about the women in the group.
    • Our group includes women from all stages and walks of life.  We are students, new mothers, grandmothers, care givers, business women, health care providers, educators, retirees, and home makers.  We do require members to be at least 18 years of age.
  • When does the chorus rehearse?
    • We rehearse on Monday evenings from 7-8:30 pm, with warm-ups starting at 6:45pm.  We rehearse from the first Monday after Labor Day in September until May.  We usually have a Workshop day on a Saturday once during the season.  We rehearse at the Peace Church in Eagan.
  • How often does the chorus perform?
    • We average 1-2 performances a month, with more in December for the holidays. Most of our members are not available to perform during the day Monday-Friday, so performances tend to be scheduled in the evening or on weekends.
  • Where does the chorus perform?
    • We traditionally have public performances at a local church in December for Christmas, and a performance in the spring.  We have performed at many community events, including:  Holtz Farm events, the Eagan Art Fair, Eagan July 4th, Eagan Market Fest, Eagan Home and Garden Show, Day of Prayer gathering, Dakota Village Christmas, Holidazzle Parade, Mall of America, and performed the national anthem for a Twins game.  We also perform at local senior citizen complexes, and have performed for several area church teas and group gatherings.
  • Is there a uniform that chorus members wear for performances?
    • We have two different ways that we dress for performances.  The more formal is all black, (slacks or skirt, blouse with at least short sleeves, hose and shoes) usually with a colorful scarf.  The more casual is khaki slacks, white tee shirt, and long sleeved denim shirt, plain or with the Eagan Women of Note Logo.  We often wear a festive sweater or blouse for our Christmas concerts in the community.
  • How much does it cost to be a member of the Eagan Women of Note?
    • We currently have dues of $40 for the year, that can be paid $20 in September and $20 in January.  We do not want the dues to stand in the way of anyone who wants to be a part of the chorus, and will work with you if this is a hardship.  Dues are used for the basic operating expenses of the chorus, including music.
