FAQ

If you would like to join please fill out the New Member Form.

If I have not sung with a choir since high school, can I still join?

Yes!  Our members have a wide range of musical experience.  A few studied music in college, but many more sang in high school or church choirs.

Do I need to audition to join?

No, we do not require auditions, just a love of singing and the desire to sing with a choir.

What kind of music does the choir sing?

We sing a variety of music: sacred, classical, folk songs, show tunes, classic American standards, and favorites.  During the Christmas season we have a variety of traditional and favorite songs.  There is something for everyone.  The music we sing is in two- to four-part soprano and alto harmonies, depending on the arrangement.

Do I need to live in Eagan, MN to join?

No.  Although many of our members are from Eagan and the surrounding communities, we also have members from throughout the Twin Cities area.

Why are you called the Eagan Women of Note when you have members from outside Eagan?

We are based out of Eagan and the majority of our outreach is performed within this community.  We are sponsored by the Eagan Parks and Recreation Department and by the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District (196) Community Education program.

How many women are in the Eagan Women of Note?

Membership varies, but in the last few years we have had 50-70 women in the choir.

Can people join at times other than January and September?

We perform many times during the holidays, and have a major concert in December and May of each year.  We have found that it is difficult for people joining later in the season to learn the music and feel ready to perform in a shorter period of time.  Although membership is restricted to January and September, you are welcome to sit in on rehearsals to get more familiar with the group at any time.

When and where does the choir rehearse?

We rehearse on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm, with rehearsals extending to 9:00 pm later in the semester.  Normally we rehearse from the first Monday after Labor Day in September until our concert in May, with a short winter and longer summer break.  We also usually have a workshop day on a Saturday once a semester that lasts roughly 6 hours.  We rehearse at Falcon Ridge Middle School in Apple Valley or Blackhawk Middle School in Eagan

During the fall 2020 semester we will be meeting virtually.

Tell me about the women in the group.

Our choir includes women from all stages and walks of life.  We are students, new mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, caregivers, business women, health care providers, educators, retirees, and homemakers.  We do require members to be at least 18 years of age.

How often does the choir perform?

We average 1-2 optional performances a month, with more in December for the holidays. Most of our members are not available to perform during the day Monday-Friday, so performances tend to be scheduled in the evening during the week or on weekends.

Where does the choir perform?

For our main concerts in December and May, we normally use one of the local churches as our venue.  We also perform at many community events, including Holz Farm events, the Eagan Art Fair, Eagan July 4th Festival, Eagan Market Fest, Eagan Home and Garden Show, Day of Prayer gathering, Fort Snelling Chapel Sunday Service, Dakota Village Christmas, the Holidazzle Parade, Mall of America, IDS Crystal Court, and we have performed the national anthem for a Twins game, among other events.  We also perform at local senior citizen complexes, veterans homes, and for several area group banquets and gatherings as well as church teas and programs.

Is there a uniform that choir members wear for performances?

Our attire is determined by the director for each concert. In December we generally wear green and red. Please see the EWON Handbook for additional details.

How much does it cost to be a member?

We currently have dues of $150 for the year, paid as $75 in September and $75 in January. We do not want the dues to stand in the way of anyone who wants to be a part of the chorus, and will work with you if this is a hardship.  Dues are used for the basic operating expenses of the choir, including music and fees to the director and collaborative artist.

How long has the choir existed?

Eagan Women of Note was originally formed in December 1999.
